In 2017, we proudly launched The SunFlower, the first widebeam in the UK to be powered entirely by solar energy. Measuring 65' x 13' (20m x 4m), The SunFlower boasts a remarkable 20 solar panels, generating 6kWh of renewable energy, covering two-thirds of her roof. This impressive array feeds into a robust 96kWh battery bank, providing ample energy to live off-grid all year round. Her silent electric motors allow for a peaceful cruising experience, and the absence of a diesel engine means The SunFlower produces zero emissions and no harmful fumes.
Her contemporary design stands out with expansive triple-glazed windows that flood the interior with natural light while preventing heat loss. Inside, you'll find advanced wall and floor insulation, complemented by a state-of-the-art heat recovery ventilation system that efficiently retains warmth during winter while staying cool in the summer.
The SunFlower also incorporates a variety of sustainable features, including a rainwater harvesting system and a waterless composting toilet, further contributing to her eco-friendly design. With no gas onboard, the induction hob and hot water system run entirely on solar energy. For heating during colder months, an eco-friendly log burner is used, making her a truly sustainable living space with zero emissions.
Since her launch, The SunFlower has become a resounding success, turning heads and challenging perceptions of what's possible in sustainable living on the water. She has been cruising the Thames quietly since 2017, proving that a fully self-sufficient, electric-powered riverboat is not only feasible, but already making waves.
